Pioneers Win Two Matches on Friday in Route 92 Volleyball Classic

HAYWARD, Calif. - The Cal State East Bay's women's volleyball team showcased their prowess on Friday, clinching victories in both matches during Day two of the Route 92 Volleyball Classic held at Pioneer Gymnasium.

The Pioneers demonstrated their resilience and skill, first overcoming Fresno Pacific University in four sets (25-27, 25-16, 25-13, 25-20), followed by a commanding sweep against CSU Pueblo (25-23, 25-23, 25-19).

Cal State East Bay 3, Fresno Pacific 1 (25-27, 25-16, 25-13, 25-20)
In the Pioneers' first match of the day against Fresno Pacific, Cal State East Bay bounced back from a narrow first-set loss to dominate the subsequent sets as match point was off a kill from Lexi Pagani.

  • Pagani and Alexandria Gloria led the charge with 14 kills each.
  • The Pioneers' defense was equally impressive, with a total of 13 blocks, six coming from senior middle blocker Mia Jordan.

Cal State East Bay 3, CSU Pueblo 0 (25-23, 25-23, 25-19)
The evening match against CSU Pueblo saw the Pioneers maintain their momentum, securing a clean sweep of the Thunderwolves capped off by a block from Pagani and Jordan.

  • Pagani continued her stellar performance with a double-double, notching 13 kills and 12 digs.
  • Sophomore setter Pi'ilani Carvalho orchestrated the offense masterfully, dishing out 38 assists, adding to her 42 earlier in the day.
  • Key defensive contributions came from sophomore libero Kale'a Kuamo'o, who accumulated 20 digs in the first match and led the team with 16 digs in the second.

The Pioneers will conclude their Route 92 Volleyball Classic campaign on Saturday, facing off against Concordia University Irvine. The match is set to begin at 4 p.m. at Pioneer Gymnasium in Hayward, California.
