CHICO, Calif. – Cal State East Bay softball traveled to Chico to start a four-game CCAA series at Chico State. Both teams traded shutouts as the Pioneers won game one 5-0 and the Wildcats won game two, 7-0.
Game One – Cal State East Bay 5, Chico State 0
The Pioneers scored two runs in the top of the third inning on an
Adriana Martinez double to right field that drove in
Annelise Garcia and
Ashlee Toy.
In the top of the sixth inning,
Jeslyn Cuellar launched a solo home run and Toy hit into a fielder's choice as
Kyana Elder scored for a 4-0 lead.
The Pioneers would score their final run of the game on a
Ysabella Cortez RBI bunt single that scored
Alexa Zumstein.
- Marissa Quintero got the complete game shutout win for the Pioneers, with eight strikeouts as she improves to 11-5.
- Martinez led the Pioneers' offense going 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
- Cortez also went 2-for-3.
- Cuellar's home run was her first of the season and third for her career.
Game Two – Chico State 7, Cal State East Bay 0
The Wildcats' offense exploded for six runs in the bottom of the third inning, then added one more bottom of the fifth inning. The Pioneers got runners into scoring position in the first, second, sixth and seventh innings but could not plate the runners as Chico State went on to a 7-0 win.
- Cuellar and Toy went 1-for-2 each to lead the Pioneers offensively and also stole one base each.
