HAYWARD, Calif. – Cal State East Bay softball opened a four-game CCAA series on Thursday against San Francisco State at Pioneer Softball Field. In eight innings, the Pioneers won game one 2-1, in eight innings. The Gators won game two, 2-0.
Game One – Cal State East Bay 2, San Francisco State 1 (8 innings)
Annelisa Garcia led off the bottom of the first with a triple. Following the triple,
Ashlee Toy hit an RBI single to left field to drive in Garcia for a 1-0 lead.
The Gators tied the game in the top of the third inning with one run and the game stayed tied through the seventh inning.
With two outs in the bottom of the eighth, Toy and
Sarissa Block hit back to back singles. With Toy in scoring position,
Adriana Martinez hit a walk-off single to right field that drove in Toy for the winning run.
- Marissa Quintero earned the win in the circle with 8.0 innings pitched allowing no earned runs with three strikeouts toward her 13th win of the season.
- Toy led the Pioneers' offense going 2-for-4 with one run scored and one RBI.
- Garcia and Martinez also had two hits each.
Game Two – San Francisco State 2, Cal State East Bay 0
The Gators scored a run in the top of both the fourth and fifth innings for the only runs of the game. The Pioneers had a runner into scoring position in the bottom of the first, third and sixth innings but could not plate the runner.
Cal State East Bay: 21-14, 13-11 CCAA
SF State: 16-21, 12-14 CCAA
