SEASIDE, Calif. – Cal State East Bay softball traveled to Seaside to start a four-game CCAA series with Cal State Monterey Bay. The Otters won game one 3-1 and the Pioneers won by run rule, 10-1, in six innings, in game two.
Game One – Cal State East Bay 5, CSU Monterey Bay 4
The Pioneers would get on the scoreboard first in the top of the second inning with three runs.
Adriana Martinez hit an RBI double to drive in
Kyana Elder, and would eventually score CSUEB's second run on a throwing error later in the inning, and
Amelia Morales hit an RBI single to give East Bay a 3-0 lead.
The Pioneers tacked on a run in the top of the fifth inning on a solo home run to center field by Garcia.
The Otters trimmed into the Pioneers lead with three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning with all runs resulting from separate wild pitches.
Cal State East Bay added its final run in the top of the sixth inning on a solo home run to center field by
Adriana Martinez for a 5-3 lead.
CSUMB scored one run in the top of the sixth to cut the deficit to one run, and in the bottom of the seventh had the tying run in scoring position, but the final out was made as the Pioneers won game one, 5-4.
- The win went to Marissa Quintero for the Pioneers, improving to 5-3 with two strikeouts and three runs allowed in five innings of work.
- Ashlee Toy got her first save of the season with 1.1 innings in the circle.
- Martinez led the Pioneers' offense going 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBIs.
Game Two – Cal State East Bay 4, CSU Monterey Bay 1
The Pioneers would score three runs in the top of the fourth inning.
Ysabella Cortez hit an RBI single and
Jeslyn Cuellar doubled to drive in Martinez and Cortez for a 3-0 lead.
Garcia hit her second home run of the day to right center in the top of the fifth inning to lead 4-0.
Although the Otters scored a run in the final inning, the Pioneers finished out the game for a 4-1 victory and sweep of Saturday's doubleheader.
- Toy picked up the win for the Pioneers with a complete game allowing one run and striking out one. She improves to 5-3 on the season.
- Garcia hit a home run in each game on Saturday, and in the last three games combined, she has four home runs.

The next doubleheader for the Pioneers will be Wednesday, March 13 as they take on Sonoma State in Rohnert Park. First pitch of game one is set for noon from Seawolf Softball Field. The doubleheader is the first of two make up doubleheaders between CSUEB and the Seawolves in March.
