ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – On Tuesday, Cal State East Bay softball returned to CCAA action with a make-up doubleheader at Sonoma State. In game one, Sonoma State won 5-1. In the second game, the Pioneers shut out the Seawolves, 4-0 to split the pair of games.
Game One – Sonoma State 5, Cal State East Bay 1
After
Annelise Garcia led off the game with a double, she scored from second base following an error for a fielder's choice for a 1-0 lead.
Sonoma State tied the game 1-1 in the bottom of the second on a leadoff home run hit by Lauren Mirtoni.
The Seawolves took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the third inning after a pair of RBI singles, and added two more in the bottom of the sixth on a two-run pinch-hit double by Danyelle Castillo for a 5-1 lead.
CSUEB had one runner on base in the top of the seventh, but did not score as Sonoma State took game one, 5-1.
- Garcia went 2-for-4 with one run scored.
Game Two – Cal State East Bay 4, Sonoma State 0
Like game one, Garcia led off with a hit. After her single, she advanced a base after back-to-back groundout. From third base, Garcia scored the first run of the game after
Adriana Martinez reached on an error.
Hanging on to a 1-0 lead through five innings, CSUEB's lead tripled in the top of the sixth.
Ysabella Cortez reached on a two-out error, and Garcia followed with another hit, then stole second base. With two runners in scoring position,
Ashlee Toy singled to center field to drive in Cortez and Garcia for a 3-0 lead.
With the bases loaded in the top of the seventh,
Amelia Morales hit a pinch-hit sacrifice fly, as
Mariah Ayala scored the Pioneers' fourth run of the game.
In the bottom of the seventh,
Marissa Quintero retired the side for a complete game one hitter as Cal State East Bay won 4-0 to split Tuesday's doubleheader.
- Sonoma State's leadoff hitter got a hit with a bunt, but from there, Quintero did not allow a hit for the rest of the game for a one hitter for a second consecutive shutout.
- Garcia went 3-for-4 in game two and has multiple hits in the last three games for a .435 batting average.
