HAYWARD, Calif. – Cal State East Bay women's water polo won its second match in as many days at Pioneer Pool in convincing fashion on Saturday with a 15-5 victory over Santa Clara. The Pioneers shut out the Broncos in the first half, and did not look back.
Less than three minutes into the match, Ingrid Rubio Miro found the net, which was the first of 11 unanswered goals by the Pioneers in the first half. Of the 11 goals in the first half,
Elise Whitworth had four and
Jordan Jarandson had three.
Daniela Passoni kept the Broncos out of the Pioneers' net, shutting out Santa Clara in the first half.
To start the second half, Santa Clara scored four of the five goals in the third quarter, but the Pioneers kept their distance outscoring the Broncos 3-1 in the fourth quarter as Cal State East Bay won 15-5 on Saturday.
- Whitworth scored four goals, while Jarandson and Luna Sarmiento scored three each.
- Jarandson also had two assists and drew two exclusions.
- Passoni was outstanding in the net, with 20 saves in just 24 minutes of action. She also had four steals.
