BORREGO SPRINGS, Calif. – At Rams Hill Golf Club, the Cal State East Bay men's golf team finished up the three-round Battle in the Desert on Wednesday tied for ninth place among 16 teams.
- The only Pioneer to reach the top-20 on the leaderboard was Easton Hether, who tied for 16th place at 3-over-par 219 (72-74-73). Hether had a team-high 15 birdies among the 54 holes played throughout the week.
- The two lowest third round scores on Wednesday of 71 were from Melker Backstrom and Aaron Lee.
- Backstrom had the only eagle in the tournament for CSUEB.
- Lee finished with 12 birdies.
Florida Southern won the team competition, while Simon Bjorken of Cal State Monterey Bay finished tied atop the leaderboard at 5-under-par 211 and won first place in a playoff.

The Pioneers don't need to travel too far from Hayward as they will compete next Monday and Tuesday, March 4-5, in the Nighthawk Invitational, which takes place at Callippe Preserve Golf Course in Pleasanton.
