HAYWARD, Calif. - The final two games of a four-game CCAA series took place on Saturday from Pioneer Softball Field, as Cal State East Bay hosted Cal Poly Humboldt for the softball doubleheader. The Pioneers won game one, 3-1, but lost the series finale, 1-0.
Game One - Cal State East Bay 3, Cal Poly Humboldt 1
With
Annelise Garcia at third base in the bottom of the first inning,
Cynthia Carrillo hit an RBI single up the middle to drive her in for a 1-0 lead for the Pioneers.
While the Lumberjacks were held scoreless in the first five innings,
Gabriela Rivera led off the bottom of the fifth with a double, and reached third base on a sacrifice bunt by
Ysabella Cortez. Then,
Harley Acosta hit a sacrifice fly RBI as Rivera scored for a 2-0 CSUEB lead.
Kyana Elder scored the Pioneers' third run on an error in the bottom of the sixth.
The Lumberjacks scored one run in the top of the seventh on an RBI double from Alyssa Smokey, but
Savannah Barchus entered the circle after the run for CSUEB and closed out the game as the Pioneers won 3-1.
- Ashlee Toy picked up the win with 6.0 innings in the circle allowing one run with two strikeouts to improve to 3-2 on the season. Barchus got her first save of the season.
- Carrillo and Rivera each went 2-for-3 in the game.
Game Two – Cal Poly Humboldt 1, Cal State East Bay 0
Through six innings, the game was scoreless. The Pioneers did have runners in scoring position in the first three innings but were unable to capitalize.
Izzy Starr led off the top of the seventh with a double, and two batters later, Shelby Shanks delivered an RBI double to give the Lumberjacks a 1-0 lead. Smokey entered the circle in the bottom of the seventh and retired the side to give Humboldt a 1-0 win to conclude the series.
- Carrillo reached base twice in game two including a double.
