HAYWARD, Calif. - Cal State East Bay softball played its first CCAA doubleheader of 2024 on Friday against Cal Poly Humboldt at Pioneer Softball Field. The Lumberjacks won game one 4-1 and game two 3-2 in nine innings.
Game One – Cal Poly Humboldt 4, Cal State East Bay 1
The Pioneers took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on a
Kyana Elder RBI single to center field that drove in
Ysabella Cortez.
The Lumberjacks took a 2-1 lead in the top of the fourth with an RBI double from Katlyn Gifford and eventually she scored the go-ahead run on an error. The Lumberjacks added two more runs that resulted from an error in the top of the fifth inning en route to a 4-1 win.
Elder led the Pioneers' offense going 1-for-3 with one RBI.
Game Two – Cal Poly Humboldt 3, Cal State East Bay 2 (9 innings)
The Lumberjacks took a 2-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning with a two-run double from Izzy Star.
The Pioneers would tie the game in the bottom of the fifth inning with two runs – one on an
Amelia Morales RBI single to center field that drove in
Kylie Coelho and
Annelise Garcia scored the tying run on a double steal of home. The Pioneers would get a runner into scoring position in the bottom of the sixth but could not plate the run.
Going to extra innings, Humboldt took a 3-2 lead in the top of the ninth when Vanessa Saltos hit an RBI double to drive in Starr. The bottom of the ninth was retired in order as Cal Poly Humboldt swept the doubleheader with a 3-2 win.
Elder went 3-for-3 in game two.

Cal Poly Humboldt: 8-6, 4-2 CCAA
