HAYWARD, Calif. - Cal State East Bay softball hosted a non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday against No. 23 Concordia University Irvine. The Pioneers won game one 3-1, and lost game two, 4-2 to the Golden Eagles.
Game One: Cal State East Bay 3, Concordia 1
After a scoreless first inning, the Golden Eagles would get on the scoreboard in the top of the second for a 1-0 lead.
The Pioneers tied the game in the bottom of the second inning when
Jeslyn Cuellar hit into a bases loaded error by the Eagles that allowed
Alexa Zumstein to score the tying run.
CSUEB took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the third inning on an
Annelise Garcia solo home run to left field which was her first home run of the season.
In the bottom of the fourth inning,
Amelia Morales scored as a pinch runner for a 3-1 lead which was preserved by the Pioneers for the final three innings for the win.
- Marissa Quintero improved to 2-1 on the season in the circle with 7.0 innings pitched allowing one run and striking out three.
- Zumstein led the Pioneers' offense going 2-for-3 with one run scored.
Game Two: Concordia 4, Cal State East Bay 2
A solo home run by Courtney Koelmans put the Golden Eagles up 1-0 in the top of the first. The lead doubled for CUI in the top of the second on a Tessa Jerue sacrifice fly RBI for a 2-0 lead.
In the bottom of the second inning,
Kyana Elder led off with a single. Then,
Cynthia Carrillo hit her first home run of the season to tie the game at 2-2.
Concordia scored a pair of runs in the top of the third for a 4-2 lead. Cal State East Bay only had one runner in scoring position for the rest of the game as the Golden Eagles finished with a 4-2 win as Wednesday's doubleheader was split.

Cal State East Bay hosts Cal Poly Humboldt for a doubleheader on Friday with game one starting at noon. The series continues Saturday with a doubleheader starting at 11 a.m.
