QUOTES

Cal State East Bay head coach Shane Pelton following the first day of action at the 2024 PCSC Championships:
"I am very pleased with the effort from our program tonight. The first night is always the most challenging. Everyone is super excited, but also super nervous. I think we did a real good job settling down as the session progressed and I know we will only get better as the meet goes on.

"Miya had a phenomenal evening. She raced her heart out in the 1000 to a 2nd place finish and then dug even deeper when she anchored the 800 Free Relay to a 2nd place finish. The girl has heart, she is an absolute fighter and someone that i love to watch race!

"To be honest, our 200 Medley Relay was slightly disappointing despite our first place finish. We hold ourselves to an extremely high standard and we wanted that NCAA Cut time which we just missed. We raced great, we were happy with the results, but we wanted to be faster and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. Like I said, we will only get better as this meet goes on.

"The 800 Free Relay really impressed me. Olivia got the party started with a lifetime best and an NCAA "B" cut with a 1:52.99. Huge swim and confidence boost for her. While Justine completely shocked herself with her monster split of 1:52.19, Emilie held her own after battling in the 1000 [freestyle] earlier tonight, which is an extremely difficult double on Day One and Miya almost came from two seconds behind to just narrowly miss first place by .1. Electric race."
