CHICO, Calif. - Cal State East Bay women's basketball played in the final game of the 2023 Pioneers Conference Challenge on Saturday at Pioneer Gymnasium. After trailing by 21 points at halftime, the Pioneers stormed back for a 69-62 over win Northwest Nazarene.
The Pioneers jumped out to a 4-0 lead on a
Kayla Rosemon layup with 7:56 left, but the Wildcats answered with a 9-0 run, to ultimately finish with a 13-9 at the end of the first quarter.
Chico State dominated the second quarter, outscoring CSUEB, 21-7 and took a 34-16 lead into halftime.
In the third quarter, the Wildcats would continue to hold the Pioneers at arms' length as the quarter finished with each team scoring 18 points, as Chico State led 52-34 heading into the final quarter.
The Wildcats maintained a lead and expanded it to as much as 26 points, as they ultimately finished with a 77-54 win.
- Payton Sterk Sterk had 16 points for the Pioneers, as she went 6-for-21 from the floor and 2-for-2 from the free throw line.
- Also scoring in double figures for Cal State East Bay was Jaela Richardson with 11 points.
- Rosemon had a team-high 10 rebounds for the Pioneers.
- Defensively, Taylor Linzie had a block and three steals.
- Jordan Allred scored a game high 24 points for the Wildcats. Richardson had sixteen in the loss.
- The Pioneers shot 27.4 percent from the floor while Chico State shot 42.3 percent.
- The rebounding edge went in favor of Cal State East Bay, 46-43.

"We had a tough start to our weekend as it wasn't the best game for us today. We lacked effort and did not match their intensity on both ends of the floor. It is a tough loss but we have to put this behind us and get ready to go out and play hard in our next game."
