CHICO, Calif. - The Cal State East Bay women's basketball team faced a tough challenge Thursday evening, falling to Chico State 100-49 in a CCAA matchup at Art Acker Gymnasium.
The Wildcats set the tone early, outscoring the Pioneers 21-10 in the first quarter. Chico State's defensive intensity limited Cal State East Bay to just 4 points in the second quarter, allowing the home team to build a commanding 40-14 halftime lead.
The Pioneers showed signs of life in the third quarter, putting up 19 points, but Chico State's offense continued to fire on all cylinders. The Wildcats closed out the game strong, scoring 31 points in the final frame to reach the century mark.
- Krista Sheaffer led the Pioneers in scoring with a team-high 16 points and chipped in a team-high seven rebounds.
- Defensively for East Bay, Gwendilyn Aasland recorded a block and a steal while Lailah Carey had two steals.
- Six players for Chico State scored in double figures, led by an 18-point output from Meadow Aragon.
- Chico State shot 56.7 percent from the floor to Cal State East Bay's 30.5 percent.
- Chico State finished with a 37-28 rebounding edge.
