LACEY, Wash. — In a non-conference overtime battle Monday evening, Cal State East Bay fell just short against (RV) Saint Martin's, losing 86-84 at Marcus Pavilion.
The Pioneers led by as many as 13 points in the first half, including the 2:47 mark on a 3-pointer from Beril Kabamba put East Bay up 41-28. Although SMU went on a late first half run, East Bay still led at halftime, 43-36 at halftime.
The Pioneers kept a second half lead and extended it to 12, on a couple of occasions including the 12:39 mark. However, Saint Martin's responded with an 18-5 run to take a 65-64 lead, setting the stage for a back-and-forth finish to the end of regulation.
With the game tied at 74-74 and seconds remaining, Kabamba's layup gave the Pioneers a 76-74 edge. The Saints' Diego Trejo-Delgado answered though with a game-tying basket with three seconds left, forcing overtime.
In the extra period after each team traded baskets, Teiano Hardee's 3-pointer put East Bay ahead 81-78. The Pioneers maintained their lead until the final minute when Trejo-Delgado's three free throws knotted the score at 84-84. The Pioneers had a chance to break the tie but a missed basket was rebounded by the Saints. Saint Martin's Gavin Gilstrap sealed the win with a layup in the closing seconds of overtime. East Bay had one final offensive possession, but did not capitalize as SMU won 86-84.
- Campbell led all scorers with an efficient 26 points on 9-of-10 shooting.
- Kabamba added 21 points, while Hardee contributed 13.
- Payden White led the Pioneers with six rebounds and four assists.
- East Bay outshot Saint Martin's 50 percent to 44.4 percent from the floor, but was narrowly outrebounded 36-34.

The Pioneers will look to bounce back in their final game of 2024, hosting San Francisco State in a CCAA matchup on Sunday, December 22. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m. at Pioneer Gymnasium in Hayward, California. East Bay will aim to avenge a 74-71 loss to the Gators from its conference opener on November 30.
