SAN FRANCISCO - In a closely contested CCAA opener, the Cal State East Bay men's basketball team fell short against San Francisco State, 74-71, on Saturday afternoon at the Main Gym at Don Nasser Family Plaza.

The Pioneers showed resilience throughout the game, battling back from a 13-point halftime deficit to make it a nail-biter in the final minutes.
Although SF State scored the first point of the second half, East Bay answered with a 17-2 run over a stretch of just over two minutes. A layup by
Teiano Hardee at the 16:52 mark of the second half put East Bay ahead 47-46.Â
The Gators shortly thereafter regained the lead, but the Pioneers the game within reach. At the 3:48 mark of the second half,
Beril Kabamba made a layup to tie the game at 68-68.Â
SF State broke the tie at the 3:01 mark. While the Pioneers had several opportunities to regain the lead, the Gators did not look back and went on to a 74-71 win.Â

- Hardee led the charge for the Pioneers, pouring in a team-high 19 points on an efficient 7-of-13 shooting from the field.Â
- Ramsey Huff caught fire from beyond the arc, draining 4-of-5 three-pointers en route to 12 points.
- Kabamba and Payden White chipped in 16 and 11 points respectively.
- With five rebounds each were Kabamba and Tyree Campbell.Â
- Tyree Campbell led the defensive effort with three steals, while also dishing out four assists.
