POMONA, Calif. - In a 2024 CCAA Tournament quarterfinal match, the No. 6 seed Cal State East Bay volleyball team fell to No. 3 seed Stanislaus State in straight sets (25-21, 25-21, 25-18) on Thursday afternoon at Kellogg Arena.
In the opening set, East Bay engaged in a back-and-forth affair, knotting the score at 18-18 after a kill from Alexandria Gloria. Despite a late push that brought the Pioneers within a point at 22-21, Stanislaus State closed out the set with three consecutive points.
The second set saw Cal State East Bay take control early, building a 21-17 advantage. However, the Warriors mounted an impressive comeback, reeling off eight unanswered points to claim the set 25-21.
Stanislaus State's momentum carried into the third set as they jumped out to a 4-0 lead. The Warriors' 12-0 run spanning the end of the second set and start of the third was finally halted by a Natali Herrera kill. Despite East Bay's efforts to rally, Stanislaus State maintained control and secured the match with a 25-18 third-set victory.
- Lexi Pagani led the Pioneers with a team-high nine kills and 15 digs, showcasing her all-around skills.
- Mia Jordan and Fane Paua each contributed two total blocks, anchoring East Bay's defensive efforts at the net.
- Gloria distributed 14 digs, while Rebeca Freitas added 11 digs to the defensive cause.
The match marked the end of several illustrious careers for Cal State East Bay seniors:
- Pagani and Jordan concluded their careers ranked seventh and eighth, respectively, in program history for total kills.
- Jordan's 286 career blocks place her third all-time for the Pioneers.
- Pagani's 841 career digs rank ninth in East Bay volleyball history.
- Gloria finishes tied for eighth in program history with 103 service aces.
