HAYWARD, Calif. - The Cal State East Bay women's volleyball team roared back to form on Friday evening, snapping a three-match losing streak with a commanding 3-0 victory over Cal State Dominguez Hills with the winning score appearing on a newly-installed scoreboard at Pioneer Gymnasium. The Pioneers won with set scores of 25-20, 25-20, 25-22.Â
The opening set saw both teams locked in a fierce battle, with the scoreboard reading 19-19 as tension mounted. It was then that Jada Stone ignited a game-changing 6-1 run with a kill. The Pioneers rode this momentum to a 25-20 finish, with Coco Ikpe delivering the final kill to secure the set.
Set two showcased the Pioneers' dominance early on. A blistering 7-0 run put Cal State East Bay firmly in the driver's seat, allowing them to cruise to another 25-20 set win and a commanding 2-0 lead.
The Toros came out swinging in the third set, jumping to a quick 7-1 lead. However, the resilient Pioneers clawed their way back, eventually tying the score at 19-19 with another crucial kill from Stone. From there, it was all East Bay, as they sealed the sweep with a 25-22 set win, punctuated by Ikpe's match-winning kill.
- Coco Ikpe led the charge with a team-high 12 kills, including the match-winning point.
- Lexi Pagani notched her fifth double-double of the season, contributing 10 kills and 12 digs, while also serving up four aces.
- Stone orchestrated the offense masterfully with a team-leading 18 assists.
- The team's collective effort was evident in their impressive .324 attack percentage, far outpacing CSUDH's .173.
Head Coach Kimberly Lambert was elated with her team's performance, stating:
"I'm really happy for the team to get this win for our first CCAA home opener in Pioneer Gym. We had some great performances tonight, led by our senior outside hitters, [Alexandria Gloria] and [Coco Ikpe]. At times we struggle to connect it all together, but we pushed through it and showed toughness and strength as a team. Nice team effort!"
