Pioneer Men's Soccer Falls 2-1 to No. 18 Cal Poly Pomona on Friday

Difference in match decided by last-second goal by Broncos

HAYWARD, Calif. — Cal State East Bay men's soccer fell 2-1 on Friday after Max Laguna scored with one second remaining to lift No. 18 Cal Poly Pomona to victory in a CCAA men's soccer match Friday at Pioneer Stadium. The Pioneers got on the scoreboard first on a goal from Eugenio Perez-Vera Merino, but it would prove not to be enough for a win.

MATCH SUMMARY

The Pioneers took an early lead when Eugenio Perez-Vera Merino scored after taking a pass from a corner kick by Leon Eisert in the 27th minute. It was Perez-Vera Merino's second goal of the season, making him the only East Bay player with multiple goals this year.

Cal Poly Pomona equalized in the 74th minute as Woody Angell found the net, with the goal assisted by Laguna and Jakob Singh.

The match seemed destined for a draw until Laguna's last-gasp heroics secured the 2-1 win for the Broncos.
