HAYWARD, Calif. - Cal State East Bay men's basketball was unable to extend its winning streak on Saturday, as the Pioneers came up short against Stanislaus State, dropping a CCAA game, 79-73 inside Pioneer Gymnasium.
In the first half, the Warriors started the game on a 13-6 run capped by a John Wade III jumper in the paint with 13:34 left in the half. The Warriors led by as much as eight in the half, at 27-19, on a Micah Boone three pointer with 6:21 left in the half. The Pioneers would then go on a 10-0 run, capped by a
Chris James layup with 3:52 left in the half, to take a 29-27 lead and eventually took a 35-33 advantage into halftime.
Cal State East Bay would hold the Warriors at arms' length for the majority of the half and gained their largest lead of the ballgame at nine on two occasions; the second occasion at 57-48 on a
Kevin Ebiriekwe layup with 11:07 left. From that point on, the Warriors would go on a 14-2 run, capped by a Boone 3-pointer with 6:34 left, breaking a tie for a 62-59 lead. Although the Pioneers were able to keep pace, they would remain behind for the rest of the game, ultimately falling 79-73 to Stanislaus State.
- Grady Lewis picked up his third double double in four games with 21 points and 10 rebounds on Saturday. He went 8-for-12 from the floor and 5-for-6 from the free throw line.
- Also scoring in double figures for CSUEB were Tyree Campbell with 15 points, Dimitrios Klonaras with 13 and James with 11.
- Defensively, Lewis had three blocks.
- Boone led Stanislaus State in scoring with 22 points.
- The Pioneers shot 46.9 percent from the field while the Warriors shot 42.9 percent in field goals.
- CSUEB outrebounded the Warriors 40-36.
