HAYWARD, Calif. - Cal State East Bay women's basketball played its final game of a four game homestand with a matchup against Cal State Dominguez Hills at Pioneer Gymnasium. The Toros outscored the Pioneers by 13 in the fourth quarter en route to a 78-67 victory.
In the first quarter, both teams battled close, but the Pioneers took a 19-17 lead with five seconds remaining in the quarter on a jumper from
Josias Mickens.
The Pioneers led by as much as six points in the second quarter, including a 33-27 lead on a 3-pointer by
Payton Sterk at the 2:23 mark. Although the Toros came back within two points late in the quarter, a layup by
Kayla Rosemon and a pair of free throws by Sterk helped CSUEB lead 37-31 at halftime.
Although the third quarter was close, CSUDH outscored the Pioneers, 22-18, trimming the lead to 55-53.
After a free throw early in the fourth quarter by Rosemon, the Toros started went on a 12-1 run, taking a lead and not looking back as they finished with a 78-67 win over the Pioneers on Saturday.
- Jaela Richardson scored 17 points for the Pioneers, going 7-for-15 from the floor with three made free throws.
- Also scoring in double figures for the Pioneers were Camryn Washington with 13 points and Sterk with 12.
- With six rebounds each were Sterk and Taylor Linzie.
- Defensively, Josias Mickens had four steals on Saturday.
- Cristina Oliva scored a game high 22 points for the Toros.
- The Pioneers shot 39.7 percent from the field while CSUDH shot 41.7 percent.
- The Toros outrebounded CSUEB 48-33.
