HAYWARD, Calif. – On Friday, the first home match of the 2023 season for the Cal State East Bay men's soccer team took place at Pioneer Stadium. Despite an early goal by the Pioneers, they dropped Friday's match, 2-1 to No. 20 St. Mary's (Texas).
- Less than four minutes into the match, Aaron Farnan took a pass off the left wing from Niek de Jong and found the net for his third goal of the season as Cal State East Bay led 1-0.
- Cian Foley took a free kick in the 20th minute that found Gero Wolters in front of the net, as Walters headed in the equalizer.
- In the 37th minute, the Rattlers were awarded a penalty kick as Foley converted the opportunity into what became the game-winner.
- Farnan leads the Pioneers in goals this season with three. He also led the team in shots on Friday with five.
- CSUEB outshout St. Mary's, 17-7.
