HAYWARD, Calif. - The 2023 season opened Friday night for the Cal State East Bay women's soccer team at Pioneer Stadium. The Pioneers played to a 0-0 draw in the season opener against Simon Fraser.
Despite outshooting the Red Leafs 8-5, the Pioneers were unable to net a goal on Friday. In the same match, both goalkeepers kept the net empty with a combined five total saves. Cal State East Bay was awarded two penalty kicks in the match, but was unable to capitalize as both SFU and the Pioneers played to a scoreless draw.
- Preserving the shutout for the Pioneers was goalkeeper Jazlyn Castillo, who made two saves.
- With a team-high three shots for CSUEB was Mika Sayfurahman, with one on net.
