HAYWARD, Calif. – The Cal State East Bay softball team started their final home CCAA series of 2023 against Chico State at Pioneer Softball Field. The Wildcats won game one 3-2 and the Pioneers won game two 6-3.
Game 1 – Chico State 3, Cal State East Bay 2
Jeslyn Cuellar hit a sacrifice fly RBI to center field that scored
Sarah Duran to give the Pioneers a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.
The Wildcats took a 2-1 lead in the top of the third inning with two runs.
Annelise Garcia launched a solo home run to even the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the third inning.
Chico State took a 3-2 lead in the top of the fifth inning when Anastacia Alba stole home.
Despite Cal State East Bay having runners in scoring position in the sixth and seventh innings, the Pioneers did not capitalize as Chico State took game one, 3-2.
Game 2 – Cal State East Bay 6, Chico State 3
The Wildcats scored two runs in the top of the third inning off RBI doubles and added one more for a 3-0 lead in the top of the fourth inning.
The Pioneers' offense exploded for six runs in the bottom of the fourth.
Cynthia Carrillo scored on a throwing error, then hits from
Sarissa Block,
Sydney Littles,
Sarah Duran and
Adriana Martinez combined for five RBIs, as Cal State East Bay led 6-3.
The game remained 6-3 for its remainder as the Pioneers split Friday's doubleheader.
The win went to
Savannah Barchus for the Pioneers and the save went to
Anamaria Beard.
- Garcia's home run was her seventh of the season to lead the team and is tied for fourth most in the CCAA through Friday.
- Garcia and Duran combined for three hits each on Friday.
- Gabriela Rivera had a pair of hits in game two.

Chico State: 21-24, 14-18 CCAA
