CSUEB Softball Celebrates Senior Day Saturday

HAYWARD, Calif. – Cal State East Bay softball team played its final home CCAA doubleheader against Chico State at Pioneer Softball Field on Saturday. The Wildcats won game one 6-2 and game two 11-4. Following Saturday's results, the Pioneers were eliminated from the possibility of qualifying for the 2023 CCAA Tournament, and effectively, Saturday's second game was the season finale for Cal State East Bay.

Before the game, a Senior Day ceremony took place honoring Anamaria Beard, Sara Cano, Lisett Colindres, Sarah Duran, Sydney Littles and Lex Palmon

GAME SUMMARIES

Game 1 – Chico State 6, Cal State East Bay 2 
The Wildcats took a 3-0 lead in the top of the third inning. 

The Pioneers answered by getting a run back in the bottom of the third inning on an Adriana Martinez RBI double to left center that scored Sydney Littles.

Chico State added two runs in the top of the fifth inning and one more in the top of the sixth for a 6-1 lead. 

Cynthia Carrillo hit an RBI double to drive in Duran as CSUEB trailed 6-2, but it was not enough as Chico State finished with a 6-2 win in game one.
 
Game 2 – Chico State 11, Cal State East Bay 4
Martinezhit an RBI double, driving in Duran as the Pioneers led 1-0.  

The Wildcats scores seven runs in the top of the third inning for a 7-1 lead.

In the top of the third, Martinez singled to center field to drive in Annelise Garcia and Jeslyn Cuellar tripled to center field to bring Duran and Martinez to the plate, as the deficit was cut to 7-4. 

However, the Wildcats would score four more runs between the fourth, sixth and seventh innings to pull away for an 11-4 win.

  • Martinez finished the day going 3-for-6 with three RBIs. She was the leading hitter for the Pioneers in 2023 with a .340 batting average. 
  • Some notable complete season stats for Cal State East Bay include:
    • Annelise Garcia led the Pioneers in multiple offensive categories including home runs (seven), RBIs (36), triples (five) and runs scored (30). 
    • A team-high 16 doubles for Carrillo. 
    • A 2.15 ERA and 98 strikeouts for Beard. 
  • After coaching six seasons played (seven years under her direction) for the Pioneers, Claire Sua-Amundson has 132 career wins
