GAME SUMMARIES

Game One - Cal State East Bay 3, SF State 2 (8 innings)
After two scoreless innings, the Gators took a 1-0 lead on an RBI single from Kai DeLeon in the bottom of the third inning.

In the top of the fourth, Annelise Garcia doubled for two RBIs, driving in Jeslyn Cuellar and Gabriela Rivera, as the Pioneers took a 2-1 lead.

SF State tied the game 2-2 in the bottom of the sixth when DeLeon scored on a fielder's choice.

Cuellar led off the top of the eighth drawing a walk, then advanced into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt by Ysabella Cortez. Later in the inning, Sydney Littles delivered an RBI single that drove in Cuellar for the go-ahead run.

Although a runner for SF State reached base on a single to represent the tying run in the bottom of the eighth, Anamaria Beard retired the final two batters faced and finished the game with a 3-2 win.

Beard picked up her 13th win of the season with a complete game as the Pioneers took game one, 3-2 in eighth innings.

Game Two - SF State 2, Cal State East Bay 1
SF State took a 1-0 lead on a wild pitch in the bottom of the first, and doubled the lead to 2-0 in the bottom of the third when DeLeon stole home.

Sarah Duran led off the top of the fourth with a double, then advanced to third on a groundout. Cynthia Carrillo hit a sacrifice fly RBI to drive in Duran as CSUEB cut the deficit to 2-1.

In the final three innings, the Pioneers had runners in scoring position, but did not capitalize as SF State won the second game of a doubleheader, 2-1.

NOTABLE STATS
  • Littles had two hits in game one.
  • In game two, Cortez and Adriana Martinez had two hits each.
  • Beard has 93 strikeouts on the season, tied for fourth in the CCAA through Tuesday's action.
  • The Pioneers will need to wait and see how CCAA softball action plays out throughout the next week to determine their position in pursuit of the CCAA Tournament before the final regular season series. They currently are in ninth place, but multiple teams ahead of them in the conference standings have games to be played during the Pioneers' bye week as the results of the games will have an effect on where CSUEB stands heading into the final four games of the regular season.
