LOLETA, Calif. – Cal State East Bay softball started a rescheduled CCAA series against Cal Poly Humboldt at Bear River Sports Complex on Thursday with the first of two doubleheaders. The Pioneers were swept Lumberjacks, dropping game one 2-1 in nine innings and lost 6-1 in game two.
Game One – Cal Poly Humboldt 2, Cal State East Bay 1 (9 innings)
Annelise Garcia led off the game with a double, then reached third base on a sacrifice bunt by
Sarah Duran. The Pioneers took a 1-0 lead on a fielder's choice to second base by
Cynthia Carrillo that drove in
Annelise Garcia.
The Lumberjacks tied the game in the bottom of the first when Katlyn Gifford hit an RBI single.
From that point on, the two teams played seven scoreless innings.
In the bottom of the ninth inning, the Lumberjacks loaded the bases, and McKenna Beach hit an infield RBI single to drive in the winning run for a 2-1 walkoff victory.
Game Two – Cal Poly Humboldt 6, CSU East Bay 1
The Pioneers took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when
Adriana Martinez singled to right field to drive in Garcia.
The Lumberjacks tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the second when Alyssa Smokey hit an RBI single. In the second inning, Humboldt would take the lead for good when Micaela Harris hit an RBI single for a 2-1 lead
The Lumberjacks' offense exploded for four runs in the bottom of the fifth to pull away for a 6-1 lead, which would become the final score.
- Between both games, Garcia went 4-for-7, scoring both runs on the day for the Pioneers.
- Also going 4-for-7 on Thursday was Martinez, with one RBI.
- In game one, with a no-decision, Anamaria Beard pitched eight innings in the circle allowing one run.
Cal State East Bay: 21-26, 10-18 CCAA
Cal Poly Humboldt: 19-20, 7-13 CCAA
