HAYWARD, Calif. – On Wednesday, the Cal State East Bay softball team hosted a non-conference doubleheader against Minnesota State-Moorhead. The Pioneers swept the Dragons with a pair of victories, including 2-0 in game one and 5-3 in game two.
Game One - Cal State East Bay 2, MSU Moorhead
The Pioneers got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the second inning on a
Sydney Littles RBI single to right field that drove in
Gabriela Rivera. In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Pioneers got their final tally when an error in right field allowed
Sarah Duran to score for a 2-0 lead.
Allowing only one hit,
Anamaria Beard pitched a complete game shutout in the circle for her eighth win of the season. Beard had five strikeouts in the one-hitter.
Game Two - Cal State East Bay 5, MSU Moorhead 3
The Pioneers scored a pair of in the bottom of the second inning for a 2-0 lead. The first run was on a Duran RBI single to the shortstop that scored
Mariah Ayala and the second run was on a
Cynthia Carrillo RBI single to drive in Duran.
The Dragons scored three runs in the top of the third inning to take a 3-2 lead, with two coming off a double by Azalya Lopez for two RBIs.
In the bottom of the third inning, Rivera scored the tying run when Duran drew a bases loaded walk.
A pair of errors on one play benefited the Pioneers in the bottom of the fifth, as
Kylie Coelho, as a pinch runner, scored the go ahead run for a 4-3 lead.
Rivera hit an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth, as CSUEB led 5-3.
Savannah Barchus retired the side in the top of the seventh to secure the 5-3 win for the Pioneers.
Barchus earned her second win of the season in the circle with four inning of relief work, allowing no runs and striking out three.
- For Beard, she earned her second complete game shutout of the season, with the fewest hits allowed in a complete game during her career at CSUEB. She currently has a 2.00 ERA on the season.
- Beard's 54 strikeouts is second most in the CCAA through Wednesday.
- In the last three games, Rivera has two hits in each.
- Lisett Colindres had her first multi-hit game with the Pioneers on Wednesday.
- Carrillo's three hits in game two improved her batting average to a team-high .354.

The Pioneers were scheduled to play a four-game series at San Francisco State this coming Friday and Saturday. However, the series is postponed in anticipation of inclement weather.
On March 17-18, the Pioneers host Cal State San Bernardino for a four-game CCAA series from Pioneer Softball Field.
