HAYWARD, Calif. – On Friday, Cal State East Bay softball returned to CCAA action by splitting a doubleheader at Pioneer Softball Field against Cal State San Bernardino. The Pioneers were shut out, 6-0 in the opener, but responded in game two with a 7-5 victory.
Game One - Cal State San Bernardino 6, Cal State East Bay 0
After two scoreless innings, the Coyotes took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third, and tripled their lead to 3-0 in the top of the sixth on a two-run home run by Kaylee Williamson.
CSUSB added three more runs in the top of the seventh for a 6-0 lead, which would end up as the final score in game one.
The Pioneers were limited to two hits in the game - one each from
Sarah Duran and
Kyndal Riddell.
Game Two - Cal State East Bay 7, Cal State San Bernardino 5
After the Coyotes scored a pair of runs in the top of the first inning, the Pioneers answered back with a pair of their own in the bottom half of the inning. Duran scored CSUEB's first run of the day on a sacrifice fly RBI from
Adriana Martinez.
Annelise Garcia hit an RBI triple to tie the game at 2-2, driving in
Cynthia Carrillo.
Cal State East Bay scored five runs in bottom of the second.
Gabriela Rivera drew a bases loaded walk, Carrillo hit an RBI single, Duran scored on a wild pitch and Garcia hit a double to drive in two runs as the Pioneers led 7-2.
CSUSB scored a run in the top of the third, and two more in the top of the seventh. With the bases loaded in the inning, the tying run was at second base, but a popup to third base ended the game as the Pioneers finished with a 7-5 win.
Savannah Barchus picked up the win in relief and
Anamaria Beard got her first save of the season.
- Duran and Riddell had a hit in each game on Friday. Duran is on a current four-game hit streak.
- Barchus, after Friday's action, 3.2 innings pitched with no runs allowed, has a 1.83 earned run average
- In game two, Carrillo and Garcia had two hits each.
Cal State East Bay: 15-13, 6-8 CCAA
Cal State San Bernardino: 13-14, 9-9 CCAA

The Pioneers and Coyotes return to Pioneer Softball Field on Saturday for a CCAA doubleheader. Game one is set for 11 a.m., followed by game two at 1 p.m. The doubleheader will be the program's annual alumni day in which several CSUEB softball alumni are expected to attend.
