CLAREMONT, Calif. - On Saturday, Cal State East Bay women's Water polo came up a goal short against Azusa Pacific, but came back with 21 goals in a 21-8 win over Chapman at Axelrood Pool.

APU led 8-5 after the first two quarters. Scoring two goals each in the first half were
Bailey Barlow and
Elise Whitworth for the Pioneers.
Trailing 11-7 heading into the final frame, the Pioneers looked to make a run. Despite scoring the final three goals of the match, it was not enough, as the Cougars won 12-11 Saturday morning.
Whitworth finished with four goals in the match.
Cal State East Bay 21, Chapman 8
While
Luna Sarmiento and
Bailey Barlow scored the first two goals of the match, the Panthers answered with four straight goals in the opening quarter for a 4-2 lead after eight minutes of action.
However, the Pioneers scored six goals in the second quarter, and led 8-6 at halftime. Barlow had four goals in the first half.
Cal State East Bay dominated the second half, scoring 13 goals and limiting the Panthers to only two goals en route to a 21-8 victory on Saturday.
Sarmiento has 39 goals on the season following her six in the match.
Barlow finished with five goals, and three each were scored by
Rachel Heredia and
Caroline Vollmer.

The Pioneers return to action on Saturday, March 11 with two home matches at Pioneer Pool. At 9:30 a.m., Cal State East Bay hosts UC Merced. Later in the day, the Pioneers take on Virginia Military Institute at 3:30 p.m. CSUEB plays in two of three matches at Pioneer Pool that day, as UC Merced and VMI meet in Hayward between the Pioneers' matches.
