HAYWARD, Calif. – Cal State East Bay women's water polo hosted three matches at Pioneer Pool on Saturday. The Pioneers played in two of the contests. In the first match of the day, Cal State East Bay dominated by defeating UC Merced, 27-3. In CSUEB's afternoon match, the Pioneers won 19-11 over Virginia Military Institute.
Cal State East Bay improved to 9-10 and combined for 46 goals on the day.
Cal State East Bay 27, UC Merced 3
The Pioneers tallied 11 goals in the first quarter, and held the Bobcats scoreless in the opening frame. The 11 goals were distributed among 10 members of the Pioneers.
Quarter two was even, as UC Merced got on the board, but Cal State East Bay matched the three goals.
In the second half, the Pioneers outscored the Bobcats, 13-0, cruising to a 27-3 victory.
Ingrid Rubio Miro had six goals in the match and
Lola Gill had five.
In net,
Daniela Passoni made nine saves.
Cal State East Bay 19, VMI 11
Gill scored the opening goal to put the Pioneers ahead 1-0, but the Keydets scored the next four goals to go up 4-1.
Then, the Pioneers scored the next 10 goals with four from
Rachel Heredia.
Although VMI was within five goals in the fourth quarter, the Pioneers scored five of the last seven goals in the match for a 19-11 win.
Heredia finished with five goals and three assists.
