HAYWARD, Calif. - Cal State East Bay softball won its series opener against Cal State Monterey Bay on Friday at Pioneer Softball Field, 4-3. However, the Pioneers lost Friday's second game, and lost both on Saturday to the Otters.
Game One (Friday) - Cal State East Bay 4, CSUMB 3
The Otters took an early 1-0 lead in the second inning.
The Pioneers scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the second with both coming on a
Cynthia Carrillo single down the right field line that drove in
Serena Cadena and
Ysabella Cortez.
In the bottom of the third inning,
Kyndal Riddell singled up the middle, driving in
Jeslyn Cuellar. Cal State East Bay took a 4-1 lead when
Annelise Garcia scored as a result of an error.
Although CSUMB added two runs in the top of the seventh,
Savannah Barchus picked up her second save of the season by closing out the game for a 4-3 win.

Anamaria Beard for Cal State East Bay.
Game Two (Friday) - CSUMB 3, Cal State East Bay 0
The Otters scored the only runs of the ballgame in the top of the fifth inning – one coming on an Ally Alcayaga solo home run and two off an Oli Perez two-run home run.
Of Cal State East Bay's four hits, two were from
Sydney Littles.
Game One (Saturday) - CSUMB 6, Cal State East Bay 0
The Otters scored three runs in the top of the first inning, two in the top of the third and one in the top of the seventh.
Adriana Martinez had their lone hit in the bottom of the first for the Pioneers.
Game Two (Saturday) - CSUMB 8, Cal State East Bay 4
The Pioneers opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning on a
Cynthia Carrillo solo home run.
However, the Otters answered with four runs in the top of the second inning.
Cal State East Bay got a run back in the bottom of the second on a sacrifice fly RBI from
Mariah Ayala.
Annelise Garcia hit her third home run of the season in the fourth inning, brining the Pioneers within a run, trailing 4-3.
The game was tied at 4-4 on an RBI single from Ayala that drove in
Gabriela Rivera for the tying run.
However, the Otters broke the tie in the top of the sixth on a solo home run from Ivana Perez. CSUMB tacked on three more runs in the top of the seventh for an 8-4 lead as the final score was 8-4 in favor of the Otters.
- Carrillo went 4-for-14 in the series with three RBIs and one home run.
- Garcia's home run was her third of the season to lead the team. She also has a team-high 19 RBIs.
