HAYWARD, Calif. – With just 1.5 seconds remaining in a CCAA matchup between Cal State East Bay women's basketball and Cal State San Bernardino,
Delia Moore made a layup that gave the Pioneers a 59-58 lead and eventually the win on Saturday at Pioneer Gymnasium.
The Pioneers fell behind in the first quarter, trailing 20-17 after 10 minutes of action, and in the second quarter, fell further behind, as they went into halftime trailing 39-29.
To start the second half,
Jaela Richardson made a layup to begin a 9-0 run for CSUEB. Although the Coyotes held on to a lead throughout the entire third quarter, the Pioneers cut the deficit to four points going into the final quarter.
In the fourth quarter, CSUSB led 58-53 with 2:17 left. Less than a minute later, Moore made a pair of free throws, and
Taylor Linzie scored a layup with 56 seconds in the game. The Pioneers trailed 58-57.
On the next possession following Linzie's layup,
Jaela Richardson made a critical block on a shot take by Destiny Jackson with 28 seconds left in regulation.
After two timeouts taken by the Pioneers, nine seconds remained. On the next offensive play for the Pioneers, Moore scored a layup with 1.5 seconds left giving CSUEB a 59-58 lead.
The Coyotes had a chance to score to win the game, but did not capitalize as the Pioneers won their second straight game, 59-58.
- Moore finished with a career-high 28 points, going 9-for-21 from the floor and 10-for-13 from the free throw line.
- Richardson had a second consecutive double-double, scoring 10 points and collecting 10 rebounds.
- Also scoring 10 poitns for the Pioneers was Grace Campbell.
- Defensively, Abigail Cooper had three steals.
- Beyond the arc, the Pioneers went 0-for-9. It was the first win for the program without a 3-pointer since November 2017 when Cal State East Bay defeated Fresno Pacific, 75-74.
- Jackson led the Yotes in scoring with 16 points.

The Pioneers will play two road games coming up. The first of the two takes place Thursday, February 9 at Cal Poly Humboldt. Tipoff from Lumberjack Arena is set for 5:30 p.m. On December 3, the Lumberjacks defeated CSUEB, 59-54.
Cal State East Bay and Humboldt are currently tied at 7-9 in the CCAA standings, two games out of sixth place.
