IRVINE, Calif. – The final day of the 2023 Concordia Kickoff Classic took place on Sunday at Great Park. Cal State East Bay softball won its final game of the tournament, 4-1. Following the tournament,
Sarah Duran was named to the All-Tournament Team.
The Wolves got on the board first in the top of the first on an RBI single from Katelyn McGough.
In the bottom of the second, with two outs,
Sydney Littles reached on an error, then advanced to second base. Then Duran hit an infield single to advance Littles to third base. From third, Littles scored the tying run on a wild pitch.
With
Annelise Garcia at second base in the bottom of the third inning,
Gabriela Rivera singled, as Garcia scored the go-ahead run. On the same play, Rivera would score on an error.
Jeslyn Cuellar led off the bottom of the sixth on a single up the middle. Cuellar stole second base, then
Cynthia Carrillo hit an RBI double to right field to drive in Cuellar for a 4-1 lead.
Anamaria Beard retired all three batters in the top of the seventh, and closed out the victory for the Pioneers.
- Cuellar and Adriana Martinez had two hits each in the game.
- With Duran's one hit, she has at least one hit in all six games this season for the Pioneers.
- In the circle, Beard pitched a complete 7.0 innings for the win, and had six strikeouts, allowing only one run.
Duran was named to the 2023 All-Tournament Team after going 7-for-18 throughout five games, scored six runs and had one stolen base. Defensively in the tournament, she had four putouts and one assist on five chances.
