HAYWARD, Calif. – Climbing in the CCAA standings, by way of an 84-70 win on Thursday was the Cal State East Bay men's basketball team who defeated Cal Poly Pomona for the second time during the 2022-23 season.
At the 15:06 mark of the first half, the Broncos led 9-8. Then, a 3-pointer from
Kevin Ebiriekwe started an 18-3 run by the Pioneers. the run established a double digit lead that eventually grew to as much as 22 in the half. Ultimately, the Pioneers led 47-27 at halftime.
In the second half, the lead grew to as much as 30 points for Cal State East Bay. Despite not scoring a field goal in the final six minutes of action, and the Broncos making a late push, the Pioneers pulled away for an 84-70 win.
- Scoring a game-high 19 points was Grady Lewis, who went 6-for-7 from the floor and 7-for-8 in free throws.
- Lewis was also the Pioneers' leading rebounder with seven.
- Dimitrios Klonaras had 17 points in just 21 minutes of action.
- Defensively, Klonaras had two blocks and a steal.
- Ramsey Huff, Garrett Pascoe and Klonaras had three 3-pointers each.
- For Cal State East Bay, 84 points was the most scored by the team all season.
- Since Cal State East Bay joined the CCAA in its modern era, its the first season sweep by the Pioneers over the Broncos in the series.
- Bam Johnson led the Broncos in scoring with 13 points.
