HAYWARD, Calif. – Cal State East Bay softball lost a pair of games on Saturday to No. 6 Cal State San Marcos. The Pioneers lost game one, 3-1 and fell short in game two, 3-2.
Game One - Cal State San Marcos 3, Cal State East Bay 1
Sarah Duran led off the bottom of the first with a double, then reached third on a sacrifice bunt from
Cynthia Carrillo. CSUEB took a 1-0 lead on an RBI single from
Adriana Martinez.
Paige Donnelly hit an RBI single in the top of the fourth to tie the game for the Cougars at 1-1. Following the RBI single, Gianna Lombardi hit a two-run home run to give CSUSM a 3-1 lead.
The Pioneers had runners in scoring position on two separate occasions to follow in the game, but did not capitalize as the Cougars won 3-1.
Game Two - Cal State San Marcos 3, Cal State East Bay 2
In the second inning, the Cougars took a 1-0 lead when Makenzie Guiliano hit an RBI single.
Martinez launched her third home run of the week in the bottom of the fourth inning to tie the game at 1-1.
CSUSM took a 3-1 lead when Aneesa Arredondo hit an RBI single to drive in a pair of runs.
With two outs in the bottom of the seventh, Carrillo and Martinez drew back-to-back walks. Then both were replaced with pinch runners with the tying run on base.
Annelise Garcia hit an RBI single to center field, driving in
Mariah Ayala and moving Kylie Coehlo to third base. However, the Cougars recorded the final out and swept the doubleheader with a 3-2 win.
- Martinez has a hit in six of her last seven games, with three home runs this past week.
- In game one, Anamaria Beard had seven strikeouts for 41 on the season and has a 2.22 ERA through Saturday.

No. 6 Cal State San Marcos: 10-3, 7-1 CCAA

This coming Friday and Saturday, the Pioneers host Cal State Monterey Bay for a CCAA doubleheader each day from Pioneer Softball Field. Game one each day is set for noon with game two to follow at 2 p.m.
