HAYWARD, Calif. – Cal State East Bay softball played a home doubleheader Tuesday from Pioneer Softball Field against Academy of Art. In both games, the Pioneers won with run rule in effect, winning game one 9-1 and taking game two, 11-3.
Game 1: Cal State East Bay 9, ART U 1 (5 innings)
The Pioneers scored four runs in the bottom of the first off RBI hits from
Annelise Garcia,
Gabriela Rivera,
Jeslyn Cuellar and
Ysabella Cortez.
Another RBI hit for CSUEB came in the bottom of the second off the bat of
Adriana Martinez, who doubled to drive in
Cynthia Carrillo for a 5-0 lead.
Anamaria Beard who was outstanding in the circle in game one, also drove in a run in the bottom of the thirs inning on a sacrifice fly RBI, driving in Rivera.
In the bottom of the fourth, Martinez hit an RBI double, and scored on the same play as a result of an ART U error.
While the Urban Knights scored a run in the top of the fifth to prolong the game momentarily, an infield hit by
Sarissa Block drove in Cuellar for the game-ending run to win by run rule, 9-1.
Beard picked up her second win of the season with 4.0 scoreless innings in the circle.
Game Two: Cal State East Bay 11, ART U 3 (6 innings)
ART U jumped out to an early 3-0 through two innings, but the Pioneers scored four runs in the bottom of the second inning. Cuellar doubled to drive in Rivera and Garcia, and later in the inning,
Sarah Duran singled to drive in Block and Cortez to take a 4-3 lead.
In the bottom of the fourth, CSUEB scored four more runs to lead 8-3. Carrillo hit an RBI single, Duran stole home as part of a double steal, Carrillo scored on a fielder's choice and Garcia scored as a result of Cuellar reaching on an error.
Holding on to an 8-3 lead in the bottom of the sixth, a pair of ART U errors put Duran and Martinez on base. Garcia hit an RBI double to drive in Duran. Two batters later, Cuellar hit an RBI single to drive in Martinez, and on the same play, Garcia scored the clinching run on an error, as CSUEB won by run rule, 11-3.
In relief,
Savannah Barchus picked up the win with 4.1 scoreless innings, not allowing a hit during her appearance in the circle.
- Cuellar, through both games, went 5-for-6 with four RBIs and stole two bases.
- In game one, Carrillo went 3-for-3 with two doubles.
- Martinez, Rivera and Cuellar had two hits each in game one. Both hits for Martinez were doubles.
- Cuellar had three hits in game two, while Duran and Garcia had two each.
- Duran stole two bases in the second game.
