HAYWARD, Calif. - At Pioneer Gymnasium on Friday evening, Cal State East Bay volleyball won its third straight match by defeating Stanislaus State, 3-0 (25-17, 26-24, 25-23) for a sweep in a CCAA contest.
The Pioneers led by as many as 10 points in the opening set, and pulled away for a 25-17 win capped off by a kill from
Alexandria Gloria. In the first set,
Lexi Pagani had seven kills.
After an early 2-2 score in the second set, the Warriors took a lead, then led until reaching set point ahead 24-23. From there, the Pioneers responded with consecutive kills by
Taumafa Tuinauvai for a new set point, as the Pioneers led 25-24 forcing extra points.
Kara Green finished the set with a kill after a blocking error by the Warriors, as Cal State East Bay won the set, 26-24 for a 2-0 lead in set wins.
Although Stanislaus State led by as many as five points in the third set, the Pioneers battled back to reach 17-17 after a service ace from Green. As both teams played evenly for much of the remainder of the set, a 23-23 tie was broken by a service error by the Warriors setting up match point. With the match point advantage,
Mia Jordan made a solo bock as the Pioneers won the set, 25-23 to complete a 3-0 sweep on Friday.
- Jordan finished with two total blocks and is now tied for 10th in Pioneer history with 170 total career blocks after her match-clinching solo block.
- Pagani finished with a team-high 12 kills for the Pioneers.
- With a season-high three service aces on Friday was Gloria.
- Megan Crecelius had a team-high 18 assists for the Pioneers.
- Green had a team-high 12 digs.
