HAYWARD, Calif. – Cal State East Bay women's soccer played the final match of a three match homestand on Sunday as they took on Sonoma State at Pioneer Stadium on Senior Day. The Pioneers used a pair of first half goals to defeat the Seawolves 2-0 in a CCAA contest.
Sunday's win is the third in a row for the Pioneers as they climb into a three-way tie for fifth place in the CCAA standings, as the top six teams in the regular season standings qualify for the 2023 CCAA Tournament.
- The Pioneers would get on the scoreboard in the 40th minute as Madeline Bister scored on a long distance floater that found the lower left side of the net for a 1-0 lead.
- In the 43rd minute, Mika Sayfurahman took a free kick on net that was saved, but Abigail Kern rebounded to double the Pioneers' lead to 2-0.
- Morgan Pearson and Sayfurahman each had three shots to lead the Pioneers on the count.
- In net Jordan Smith got the win and her second consecutive shutout, which was her third complete shutout of the season and 22nd of her career.
- The Seawolves outshot the Pioneers 20-10 and had a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks.
- Prior to the match, five Pioneers were recognized on Senior Day, including Payton Heaney, Kelsey Peña, Danya Gonzalez, Maya Farkas and Smith.
- With the win, along with other CCAA action on Sunday, the Pioneers are in the three-way tie for fifth place in the conference standings along with Chico State and Cal Poly Humboldt, as each team has 13 standings points through Sunday. Three regular season matches remain for all CCAA teams.
- All seven wins by the Pioneers are at Pioneer Stadium this season, as they are unbeaten in nine matches in Hayward at 7-0-2.

With three matches remaining in the regular season, the first two are on the road for the Pioneers. The first of the two road matches takes place this coming Friday, October 27 at Cal Poly Pomona. Kickoff from Kellogg Stadium is set for 7 p.m.
