HAYWARD, Calif. – It was a second consecutive victory for the Cal State East Bay men's basketball team on Thursday night at Pioneer Gymnasium, as the Pioneers defeated Chico State, 78-69.
As Chico State led by as many as nine points in the earlier stretch of the first half,
Garrett Pascoe started a run at the 9:04 mark for the Pioneers with a 3-pointer that led nine unanswered points, as the game was tied 24-24 on a layup from
Dexter Stratton. The Wildcats retook the lead but didn't pull away, which allowed the Pioneers to keep pace.
And at the 1:28 mark, Cal State East Bay took a 33-32 lead on a layup from
Tim Andreolli. The Pioneers and Wildcats took a 34-34 tie into halftime.
In the second half, the Pioneers started with a 10-0 run, capped off by a 3-pointer from Andreolli at the 16:13 mark.
Less than five minutes later, Chico State took a lead after a jumper from Miles Daniels.
That lead held until the 6:45 mark when Pascoe made a 3-pointer to even the game at 57-57.
With a 59-59 score soon to follow,
Payden White made a 3-pointer to put the Pioneers ahead. The lead was not relinquished thereafter, as the Pioneers pulled away for the 78-69 win on Thursday.
- White finished with a season-high 22 points, going 7-for-12 from the floor with a pair of free throws.
- Also scoring a season high in points was Andreolli, with 16. Adding 15 rebounds to his totals gave Andreolli his second double-double of the season and first in a 40-minute game.
- Dimitrios Klonaras, Ramsey Huff and Chris James each finished with 10 points.
- Leading the Wildcats in scoring was Evan Oliver with 15 points.

This coming Saturday, the Pioneers host Stanislaus State for a 3 p.m. tipoff from Pioneer Gymnasium. It will be the second of four straight home games for Cal State East Bay. On January 5, the Pioneers lost 68-58 to the Warriors in Turlock.
