LOS ANGELES – The Cal State East Bay women's basketball team fell 80-59 on Saturday afternoon to Cal State LA. It was the second straight loss for the Pioneers.
The Pioneers led by eight, 22-14 after the opening quarter. A lot of the scoring was from beyond the arc in the quarter for CSUEB, as
Delia Moore went 3-for-3 in 3-pointers and with eight seconds remaining in the quarter,
Abigail Cooper made a 3-pointer to give the Pioneers their 22
nd point of the game.
Jaela Richardson scored four points for the Pioneers in the second quarter, but after her basket at the 6:37 mark, the Pioneers were shut out for the rest of the quarter, as CSULA took a 39-26 lead into halftime.
Trailing by 13 to start the third quarter, the Pioneers cut the lead to as little as seven in the quarter. However, both teams scored 22 points in the quarter.
The Golden Eagles kept a double-digit lead in the fourth quarter and finished with an 80-59 win on Saturday.
- Leading the Pioneers in scoring was Moore, who finished with 19 points, going 8-for-15 from the floor, with three 3-pointers.
- Payton Sterk made three baskets from beyond the arc.
- Leading the Pioneers in rebounds with nine was Taylor Linzie.
- Defensively, Sterk had three steals and Richardson had a steal with a pair of blocks.
- Raya Smith scored a team-high 15 points for CSULA.

The Pioneers will look for a bounce back performance this coming Thursday when they host Chico State. It will be the first of four straight home games at Pioneer Gymnasium. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. On January 7, Cal State East Bay lost 62-55 to the Wildcats.
