LOS ANGELES – The Cal State East Bay men's basketball team snapped a six-game losing skid on Saturday afternoon by defeating Cal State LA, 82-76. It was the first win for the Pioneers in 2023. Five members of the Pioneers scored in double-figures in the win.
The Pioneers jumped out early to a 12-1 lead, holding the Golden Eagles without a field goal until the 13:17 mark of the first half. Cal State LA would climb back in the half, coming within two points at the 5:49 mark. Cal State East Bay rebuilt more ground late in the first half, and took a 38-28 lead into halftime.
Similar to the first half, the Pioneers jumped out fast in the second half. A 3-pointer from
Ramsey Huff sparked an early 7-1 run to start the half. The Golden Eagles' first field goal in the second half did not come until the 16:37 mark.
CSUEB's largest lead of the second half was 19 points, which was at the 6:16 mark after a 3-pointer from
Dimitrios Klonaras. The Golden Eagles pushed a comeback effort, closing the deficit to five points in the final minute, but a free throw by Huff, and a pair of defensive stops sealed the game, as Cal State East Bay finished with an 82-76 win on Saturday.
- Five Pioneers scored in double figures, including Huff (18 points), Chris James (14 points), Klonaras (13 points), Payden White (13 points) and Kevin Ebiriekwe (12 points).
- With nine rebounds each were Klonaras and White.
- Defensively, Huff had three steals.
- CSULA's Alexander Sokol led all scorers with 23 points.

The first of four straight home games takes place this coming Thursday when the Pioneers host Chico State with a 7:30 p.m. tipoff from Pioneer Gymnasium. On January 7, Cal State East Bay lost 59-56 to the Wildcats.
