HAYWARD, Calif. – On Saturday afternoon, the Cal State East Bay men's basketball team fell short against Cal State Monterey Bay, falling 70-67 in CCAA action. Scoring a team-high 19 points for the Pioneers was
Dimitrios Klonaras.
Much of the first half was close. The last tie of the half was 14-14 when
Ramsey Huff made a 3-pointer at the 14:09 mark. The Otters took a lead thereafter in which the Pioneers did not tie up in the rest of the half. CSUMB pulled away for a nine point lead, 38-29 at halftime.
A 7-0 run by the Pioneers started action in the second half and slowly came back. At the 10:58 mark, Cal State East Bay took a one point lead, 49-48, after a jumper by
Garrett Pascoe.
Down the stretch, there was back and forth play, but the Otters took their final lead at the 6:34 mark. CSUEB managed to cut the deficit to one point, 68-67 after a 3-pointer from
Tim Andreolli. However, the Otters made a pair of free throws to follow in response for a 70-67 lead. Cal State East Bay had multiple opportunities in the final seconds to tie the game, but could not capitalize and the Otters came away with a 70-67 win.
- Klonaras scored 19 points, going 8-for-12 from the floor and 3-for-3 from the free throw line.
- Grady Lewis's eight rebounds was a team-high for the Pioneers.
- Defensively, Klonaras had a block and two steals.
- Jailen Nelson led the Otters in scoring with 18 points.
