HAYWARD, Calif. – The Cal State East Bay men's basketball team dropped a CCAA contest on Thursday evening at Pioneer Gymnasium, 53-49 to San Francisco State.
The first half was very evenly played throughout where no lead was greater than six points. Through 20 minutes of action, the Pioneers led 28-25.
Grady Lewis scored the first basket of the second half to extend CSUEB's lead, but the Gators answered with a 13-0 run to establish a 38-30 lead.
Chris James broke the run with a layup at the 10:02 mark.
SF State held on to a lead until the game was even at 47-47 on a jumper from James at the 1:41 mark of regulation. However, a turnover and a pair of missed shots gave possessions to the Gators, who drew fouls with the possessions and made six free throws in the final minute of the game. SF State finished with a 53-49 win on Thursday.
- Lewis and Ramsey Huff scored 11 points each for the Pioneers. For Huff, his 11 points matched a season-high in scoring for him.
- Dimitrios Klonaras had a team-high seven rebounds for CSUEB.
- For the Gators, Eche Okeke had a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds.
