CHICO, Calif. – Cal State East Bay softball finished up a four-game CCAA series with Chico State on Saturday. The Wildcats won 6-3 in game one and won game two 8-7 in walk off fashion as Chico State swept the four-game series.
Game One – Chico State 6, Cal State East Bay 3
The Wildcats would strike first in the bottom of the first inning on a Nina Revoir triple to left field that drove in Alani Nguyen and Reilani Peleti. The Pioneers got a run back in the top of the fourth inning on an error by the catcher that allowed Annelise Garcia to score. Chico State scored four in the bottom of the fourth – two on a Revoir double down the left field line that scored Nguyen and Peleti, one on a Tayler Berens triple to right field that scored Grace Stover and one on a wild pitch that scored Berens.
Sarah Fukushima tripled in the top of the sixth inning to drive in Kylie Coelho and Venessa Nguyen as the Pioneers cut into Chico State's lead, but the Wildcats finished with a 6-3 win.
Coelho led the Pioneers going 2-for-3 with a run scored.
Game Two – Chico State 8, CSU East Bay 7
The Pioneers would get on the scoreboard first in the top of the third inning with two runs - one coming on a Coelho single to right field that scored Sarah Fukushima and one on a Madeline Ramirez double to right field that scored Coelho.
The Wildcats got a run back in the bottom of the third inning on a Peleti single down the right field line that scored Stover. The Pioneers would extend their lead in the top of the fourth inning on a Fukushima single to left field that drove in Duran. Chico State's offense exploded for six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning for a 7-3 lead.
Down to their final chance to come back, the Pioneers did exactly that in the topof the seventh inning. Three runs scored on bases clearing double by Duran and the tying run was scored when Gabriela Rivera hit an RBI single that drove in Madeline Ramirez. However, the comeback was taken away In the bottom of the seventh inning, as the Wildcats won on a Grace Gallagher RBI double to center field that scored Revoir.
Fukushima went 3-for-4 in game two with a run scored. Duran paced the Pioneers' offense going 3-for-4 with three RBI and one run scored.
Cal State East Bay returns home for a four-game CCAA series against San Francisco State on April 16-17. First pitch on Friday from Pioneer Softball Field is set for noon.
