HAYWARD, Calif. — The Cal State East Bay softball team won its fifth-straight game overall and swept this week's series against Cal Poly Humboldt, earning a 10-2 home win early Saturday, before following up with an impressive 8-0 win.
CSUEB (12-5, 6-2 CCAA) stands tied for second place in the conference season through two weeks.
Sarah Fukushima hit her third home run of the season and is second on the Pioneers' all-time list with 25, trailing only
Ali Cerminara (32).
East Bay resumes action on the road next week at Cal State Monterey Bay.
Game 1: CSUEB 10, HUM 2 (5)
The Pioneers fell behind 2-0 in the first, but quickly bounced back to score10-consecutive runs and end the game in five innings.
Sydney Littles hit an inside-the-park home run to center in the bottom of the second to put East Bay ahead 3-2.
Fukushima followed with a two-run homer in the fourth, and RBI-singles in the fifth inning by
Alexa Zumstein,
Kyndal Riddell, and
Sarah Duran sealed the 10-2 win.
Abby Greer (4-4) pitched all five innings to earn the victory, allowing only the two first-inning runs and three hits total.
Game 2: CSUEB 8, HUM 0 (5)
Madeline Ramirez,
Annelise Garcia,
Ysabella Cortez and Fukushima all had multiple hits in Game 2, as the Pioneers scored twice in the first and never let up.
Gabriela Rivera's RBI single in got East Bay on the scoreboard, and Garcia's single to left scored Ramirez to make it 2-0 in the first.
The Pioneers scored twice in the fifth and final inning, as
Sara Cano scored the winning run on a wild pitch.
Anamaria Beard (7-1) pitcked up another win in the circle after giving up just two hits in a five-inning shutout.
