HAYWARD, Calif. — The Cal State East Bay softball team swept two conference contests in front of its home crowd on Friday afternoon, defeating Cal Poly Humboldt in Game 1, 11-2, before breaking through late in a 5-1 victory in Game 2.

CSUEB (10-5, 4-2 CCAA) has won three-straight games overall and four of its last five. The two teams will close out this weekend's four-game series with a doubleheader on Saturday, Feb. 26, beginning at 11 a.m.

Game 1: CSUEB 11, HUM 2, (5 innings)

Madeline Ramirez put East Bay on top early with an RBI single in the first inning, and ended the game with a two-run homer to seal a five-inning victory. The senior finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored and three RBI, while catcher Annelise Garcia continued her hot streak going 2-for-3 with two RBI.

East Bay scored two in the first and seven runs in the second inning to take firm control. Abby Greer cruised to her third win of the season (3-4), allowing one run while striking out five in four innings pitched.

Game 2: CSUEB 5, HUM 1

Anamaria Beard recorded her sixth win of the season in the circle, while Garcia had another big game at the plate to help the Pioneers finish the sweep.

Beard (6-1) tossed seven scoreless innings, allowing one run on four hits while striking out three. Garcia finished 2-for-3 with a triple, a stolen base and three RBI.

Freshman Alexa Zumstein's first-career hit was a big one in the fourth, scoring Garcia to put East Bay ahead 1-0. Shortstop Gabriela Rivera drew a bases-loaded walk to score a run in the fifth, before Garcia's 3-RBI triple made it 5-0.
