SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. — The Cal State East Bay softball team finished off the weekend with its biggest offensive output of the season in road win at Cal State San Bernardino, 14-3, earning a series split against the Coyotes to begin conference play.
The Pioneers rallied in the top half of the seventh inning of Game 1 to start the day, but came up short in a 8-7 defeat.
CSUEB (8-5, 2-2 CCAA) resumes conference play at home against Cal Poly Humboldt starting on Friday, Feb. 25, beginning at 12 p.m.
Game 2: CSUEB 14, CSUSB 3
East Bay pounded out 14 hits and scored a season-high 14 runs, as th Pioneers led from start to finish.
Madeline Ramirez went 3-for-5 with a home run, a double, five RBI and two runs scored, while
Sarah Fukushima and
Ysabella Cortez both finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
The Pioneers took a 6-0 lead in the first, highlighted by
Annelise Garcia's two-RBI double to score Cortez and
Serena Cadena.
Anamaria Beard (5-1) picked up her fifth win of the season, while
Savannah Barchus tossed 3.1 innings of shutout ball, allowing one hit.

Just after the Pioneers took a 5-3 lead in the top of the fifth inning, Cal State San Bernardino responded with five runs in the bottom half of the fifth to eventually pull out the close win.
Cadena hit a home run to right center to start the seventh, and Alexa Zoomstein's sac fly scored
Gabriela Rivera to make it 8-7.
