East Bay Begins Conference Play With Win Over San Bernardino, 2-1

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. — The Cal State East Bay softball team began conference play on Friday afternoon, splitting its road doubleheader against Cal State San Bernardino.

The Pioneers dropped the first contest, 3-0, before earning a big victory over the Coyotes in the second game, 2-1.

The two teams will close out this week's opening series another doubleheader on Saturday, Feb. 19, beginning at 11 a.m.

 Game 2: CSUEB 2, CSUSB 1

Senior Sarah Fukushima hit a solo home run in the top of the first inning, while Serena Cadena hit an RBI single in the fifth to score Ysabella Cortez for the eventual game-winning run in a road victory over Cal State San Bernardino.

Senior Anamaria Beard pitched a complete-game gem, allowing just one earned run on seven hits while striking out two. It's already Beard's fourth victory in the circle this season.

Shortstop Gabriela Rivera and right fielder Sydney Littles recorded two hits apiece for the Pioneers.

Game 1: CSUSB 3, CSUEB 0

Senior pitcher Abby Greer tossed six solid innings allowing three runs — all unearned — in a tough-luck loss to begin this weekend's four-game series.

Greer allowed just four hits and struck out five, while Fukushima went 2-for-4 at the plate.

San Bernardino scored one run in the fourth and added two more in the bottom of the sixth to escape with the close win.
