No. RV/18 East Bay Holds Off SF State for Fourth-Straight Win, 64-60

HAYWARD, Calif. — The No. RV/18-ranked Cal State East Bay women's basketball team held on for its fourth-straight victory on Thursday evening, defeating San Francisco State, 64-60, at Pioneer Gym.

CSUEB (19-2, 14-1 CCAA) was able to keep pace with first-place Cal State San Marcos (18-2, 16-1) with the win, as the Pioneers trail the Cougars by only percentage points in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) standings.

East Bay already clinched a spot in the upcoming CCAA Tournament coming into Thursday night's game, and is currently No. 3 in this week's first official NCAA West Region rankings.

Freshman Abigail Cooper led the way for the Pioneers on Thursday, finishing with a game-high 15 points on 6-of-12 shooting from the field. Senior guard Madison Schiller had a good all-around game with 14 points, seven rebounds and five assists, sophomore guard Zhane Duckett had 13 points with seven rebounds and sophomore forward Mina Tameliau added 10 points with six rebounds.

East Bay led 15-5 after the first quarter, and took an 11-point lead into halftime, 34-23. After SF State (8-14, 6-12) tied the game at 48-48 with 7:22 left in the fourth quarter, 3-pointers by Tameliau, Duckett and Schiller helped put the Pioneers back on top by four.

San Francisco State knotted the score again, 60-60, with 1:52 remaining, but clutch free throws down the stretch by Duckett, Schiller and junior guard Delia Moore helped seal the victory.

CSUEB returns to action at home on Saturday, Feb. 19, as the Pioneers play host to Cal State Monterey Bay on Senior Day beginning at 1 p.m.
