SAN RAFAEL, Calif. — The Cal State East Bay softball team split Saturday's doubleheader at Dominican, dropping the first game of the day in extra innings, 4-3, before taking Game 2, 7-3.
CSUEB (5-2) will now get set for its home opener against Holy Names on Tuesday, Feb. 15, beginning at 12 p.m.
Game 2: CSUEB 7, DU 3
Freshman catcher
Annelise Garcia nearly hit for the cycle in the Pioneers' victory, finishing 3-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBI, while
Serena Cadena hit a two-RBI double in the top of the first inning that put East Bay ahead for good.
Shortstop
Gabriela Rivera added an RBI single in the first, while
Sarah Duran's RBI double in the second scored freshman
Kylie Coelho to make it 4-0.
Garcia took over from there, ripping an RBI triple in the fourth that scored
Kayla Ching, before blasting her first-career home run in the top of the seventh to make it 7-3.
Senior
Anamaria Beard improved to 3-0 in the pitcher's circle, tossing seven strong innings and allowing three earned runs on six hits while striking out five.

The two teams played a tight contest to begin the day, as the contest was tied 2-2 after seven innings of play.
Senior
Sarah Fukushima hit an RBI single to score
Sydney Littles in the top half of the eighth and put East Bay ahead by one, but Dominican responded with two in the bottom of the eighth to escape with the walk-off win.
Fukushima finished 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored, as fellow senior
Madeline Ramirez also went 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI double in the fourth.
Senior
Abby Greer was spectacular in the circle despite talking the loss, as the Beaverton, Ore., native struck out nine and allowed three earned runs in seven innings pitched.
